1956: Oscar hijinks with Lemmon, Novak

CONGRATULATIONS OSCAR WINNERS and congrats to (host) Jerry Lewis for his fine job. Fifteen years ago he was ushering the center aisle of the Loews State in N.Y. He’s come a long way … Jack Lemmon was so nervous he forgot to take his theater tix and, when he arrived at the Pantages, put his hand in a bucket of paint! Kim Novak, who made one of the last grand entrances, would have won the cleavage award — if there was one … All the newcomers at MGM are being tested in the new 65mm process. Stars are getting bigger ‘n’ bigger … And there were lotsa gags floating around Culver City’s Stage 30, which has been painted gray and a gun tower placed atop to duplicate Leavenworth — for “Somebody Up There Likes Me.” … Over at Romanoff’s, Charles Boyer tossed a “welcome back” party for Maurice Chevalier.
