WHAT: Variety Screening Series unspooling/Q&A for “The Squid and the Whale” Thursday.
WHO: Helmer-scribe Noah Baumbach; thesps Jeff Daniels, Laura Linney, William Baldwin and Jesse Eisenberg
WHERE: ArcLight in Hollywood
DOUBLE BOOKED: It was a busy night for Baumbach and crew — they also took part in an AFI Directors’ Screening, followed by a shindig at Hollywood & Vine.
MUM’S THE WORD: When asked at AFI whether his family has disowned him over the semi-autobiographical film — about two Brooklyn boys coping with their parents’ divorce in the 1980s — Baumbach replied: “My parents were steel miners in Pennsylvania, so couldn’t quite relate to the film’s intellectual posturing.” (In reality, his mother, Georgia Brown, is a former Village Voice film critic and his father, Jonathan, a film critic and novelist who taught at Brooklyn College.)
