'Gardener' opens BFI Fest

WHAT: The opening gala for the Times BFI London Film Festival, featuring a screening of “The Constant Gardener” on Oct. 19

 WHO: An assortment of British industryites; helmer Fernando Meirelles; producers Simon Channing-Williams and Gail Egan; stars Rachel Weisz, Ralph Fiennes and Danny Huston; book’s author John Le Carre

WHERE: Odeon Leicester Square, followed by a bash at the Park Lane Hotel

HAIR APPARENT: The screening was held up by the late arrival of Fiennes, whose flight from Los Angeles was delayed. After a motorcycle police whisked Fiennes from Heathrow to the Odeon, Fiennes bounded to the stage and quipped: “I wanted them to drop me in by parachute, but I’m not blond” — referring to Daniel Craig‘s confirmation as the first fair-haired 007.
