Starbucks sells exclusive ‘Pill’

Alanis and coffee giant make 'Jagged' pact

Starbucks will offer exclusively a newly recorded acoustic version of Alanis Morissette’s “Jagged Little Pill” to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the multimillion-selling disc. It will be the coffee purveyor’s second non-compilation release, coming on the heels of Ray Charles’ “Genius Loves Company.”

Album, released by Starbucks imprint Hear Music and Warner Music’s Maverick Records, will be sold exclusively in Starbucks Co.-operated stores in North America beginning June 13 — 10 years to the date of the original release — and throughout the six weeks of Morissette’s first acoustic tour, the “Diamond Wink Tour.” No dates are yet confirmed.

Morissette will pair again with the original album’s producer and co-composer, Glen Ballard.

Singer, who will tour Europe from early April until the first week of May, will cover North America in June and July. Backed by her current touring band, she will perform all of the songs on “Jagged Little Pill.” Album has sold 14.4 million copies in the U.S. and is the second biggest seller since Nielsen SoundScan started tracking album sales in 1991.

The songs on the diamond-anni acoustic album will appear in the same order as they did on the original album, including hidden track “Your House.” CD package will include extras such as special footage from the original album’s era.

Morissette, who toured last year with fellow Canadians Barenaked Ladies, said she and Ballard “will reinterpret the songs in ways that have developed in my touring and acoustic shows over the past 10 years.”

Comedy Central inked a deal in December with Morissette and Playtone Prods. to create mockumentary-style improv series “We’re With the Band” (Daily Variety, Dec. 8). If that show proceeds, it will be shot after the summer tour.
