Usher and Ciara lead the nominations for the 19th annual Soul Train Awards and will receive the Sammy Davis Jr. entertainer of the year awards at the soul, R&B, gospel and rap kudofest.
Usher, whose “Confessions” album was the biggest seller of 2004, Tuesday nabbed five nominations for the Soul Train Awards. The singer was followed by Ciara, whose “Goodies” brought her four.
Usher’s album is up for R&B/soul album, male; “Confessions II” will contend for R&B/Soul single, male; “My Boo,” his duet with Alicia Keys, is up for single in the group category and musicvideo; and his “Yeah!” is vying for the dance cut trophy.
Keys drew three noms. Beyonce, Destiny’s Child, Jill Scott, New Edition and Prince nabbed two each.
Ice Cube will receive the Quincy Jones Award for career achievement.
The Soul Train Awards will be presented Feb. 28 at Paramount Studios. Fantasia, Nick Cannon, Brian McKnight and Nicole Richie will host the show.
