Local musicians to get Academy's Honors Award
The Recording Academy will roll out a national kudo to fete local musicians and industry leaders at the acad’s 12 chapters.
The Recording Academy Honors Award will acknowledge individuals who have significantly enriched the music community and the community at large.
The Honors Award becomes the highest accolade bestowed at the chapter level and the premier local fund-raising event. Proceeds from events will go toward music education and professional development programs in each respective city.
The Memphis chapter will honor Craig Brewer, Isaac Hayes, David Porter, Justin Timberlake and radio station WDIA on Oct. 22 and the Nashville chapter, on Nov. 7, will pay tribute to Alison Krauss, Tim McGraw, Earl Scruggs and BeBe and CeCe Winans. There will be presentations and performances by T-Bone Burnett, Jimmy Jam, Gladys Knight, Ruben Studdard and others. Other chapters will announce dates and honorees later.
The Pacific Northwest chapter honored the Kingsmen, Katie Becker, Julian Priester and Sub Pop Records on Sept. 24.
