USC’s Marshall School of Business has set up the Sports Business Institute.
Executive director of the institute will be David M. Carter, assistant professor of sports business at USC and an author of three sports-related books (most recently, “On the Ball,” which he co-authored with ESPN’s Darren Rovell).
The institute will do scholarly research and offer education programs, seminars and symposiums for people in the sports industry.
First event to be organized by the institute will be the Sports & Events Marketing Experience West, running Jan. 13-14 at USC. The East Coast version of SEME began two years ago at George Washington U. in Washington, D.C. Main goal of SEME is to allow people seeking careers in sports management to network with experts who help guide them.
Carter, a sports consultant to businesses and municipalities, appears frequently as a TV pundit and serves as sports-business commentator for the “Marketplace Morning Report” on American Public Radio.
