Bay Area company will stage program of one-act plays

Three Wise Monkeys Theater Company looks to raise funds while catering to short attention spans.

The Bay Area company will stage “Short Leaps,” a program of 17 one-act plays all less than 15 minutes long, for their fourth annual fund-raiser on Aug. 1-2 at the Eureka Theater. Nine plays will bow on the first night, with eight opening on the second.

Program supports work from Bay Area writers, actors and artists from all demographics who otherwise might not have a chance to showcase their skills. An emphasis is placed on youth, language and current issues.

Plays chosen for “Short Leaps” include work from writers Steve Koppman, Kenyon Brown, Dennis Carter and Aoise Stratford. They will be performed in a staged reading format.

Three Wise Monkeys director Malinda Trimble (“Better Than Hitler”) will helm the first evening, with Scott McMorrow directing the second.

Funds go toward producing the annual Bay One-Acts Festival, to be held February 16-March 5.
