Maria Friedman, the “Woman in White” star who won over the Broadway community when she went on with performances in the face of a recent diagnosis of stage one breast cancer, is temporarily out of the show. The thesp underwent exploratory surgery Monday.
“Because her course of treatment is still being determined, the date of Maria’s return to the production is not set,” the “Woman in White” producers said in a statement. “It is hoped she will re-join the show as early as this weekend.”
In the meantime, Friedman’s understudy, Lisa Brescia, will play the part.
