'Spam' makes it tuner No. 2 for Mr. Mike
There’s a 39-year span between Mike Nichols first Broadway musical, “The Apple Tree,” and his follow-up effort, “Monty Python’s Spamalot.” The Rialto has changed, he says.
“What we called ‘angels,’ the investors, are now called ‘producers.’ This led to some funny billing situations in which there are more producers than actors in the play.”
Nichols has nothing but kind words for the 19 producers of “Spam”: “They are very nice and supportive and have never come to us with the thing most feared from producers, which is the dread input.”
