‘Tarzan’ sets a workshop

B'way opening not confirmed for toon adaptation

Disney’s Broadway-bound stage musical adaptation of its 1999 animated film “Tarzan” will get another workshop this summer.

A casting notice for “Tarzan” released Thursday said the tuner is looking to premiere on Broadway during the 2005-06 season, but a spokesman for the tuner said the casting notice is only for the workshop, as a Broadway opening is not confirmed.

No casting or specific dates for the workshop have been announced. A previous workshop in January 2004 starred Matthew Morrison and Adam Pascal.

Phil Collins, who wrote songs for the film, has written more songs for the tuner. David Henry Hwang has written the book. Bob Crowley is signed on as director and designer.
