Georgia Theater chief to receive 'E' award
HOLLYWOOD — Georgia Theater Co. chief William Jenkins Stembler will receive the Show “E” Award at this year’s ShowEast confab in Orlando, Fla.
Nod is presented annually to honor an industry exec’s contributions to the movie biz.
Stembler joined GTC in 1973 as a veep and house counsel after serving as an enforcement attorney with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
He was named prexy in 1983 and moved over to United Artists when it bought GTC in 1986.
Stembler left the company in 1988 and started several new exhibs, including Georgia Theater Co.-II in 1991. Chain now operates 273 screens at 29 locations in the Southeast.
Award will be presented Oct. 27 at ShowEast’s Coca-Cola Final Night Banquet.
