HOLLYWOOD — The Intl. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees has unionized the crew at Austin Lyric Opera and at U.S. Expo.
IATSE said the opera bargaining unit will cover all regular full- and part-time theatrical stage and shop employees including stagehands, shop hands, wardrobe attendants and wardrobe stitchers and constructors and makeup and hairstylists. The union won an election from a pool of 34 eligible voters.
IATSE Local 415 of Tucson, Ariz., won the right to represent freelance workers with exhibition-display company U.S. Expo after a “card check” campaign seeking formal representation.
U.S. Expo subsequently recognized IATSE as the bargaining representative and agreed to begin negotiations.
