New helmer takes over U.S. ‘Terrorism’

Legit Bits

Will Frears has replaced James Lapine as director of “Terrorism” by the Presnyakov brothers.

The New Group production marks the play’s U.S. premiere. “Terrorism,” in which six apparently random scenes of urban fear and suspicion turn out to be interconnected, was originally produced in London in March 2003 by the Royal Court. Since then, it has been staged throughout Europe. Plays by Vladimir and Oleg Presnyakov are translated by Sascha Dugdale.

“Terrorism” begins preview May 9 on Theater Row and is set to open May 24.

Frears, son of film director Stephen Frears, is best known for his Off Broadway staging of “Omnium Gatherum,” a Pulitzer Prize finalist last year.
