Charity leader, org get trophies

Two backstage stalwarts, Peter Neufeld and the Theater Communications Group, will receive 2005 Tony Honors for excellence in theater, the Tony Awards administration committee announced Friday.

The honors bestow trophies on individuals or orgs not eligible in standard Tony categories.

Neufeld, a former general manager (“Annie,” “Evita,” “Cats”), runs Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, the industry charity that has raised more than $80 million for people with AIDS, HIV, or HIV-related illnesses since it began in 1988.

TCG provides grants, services, advocacy and other programs that support American non-profit theater. It also publishes plays, theater references, the magazine American Theater and the employment listing ArtSEARCH.

Winners will receive their awards at a luncheon at Tavern on the Green Oct. 25.
