Charles Busch and Julie Halston celebrate 20-plus years of collaboration and friendship in a one-night gala benefiting the Actors’ Fund of America, March 28 at Broadway’s Music Box Theater. Event features a special 20th-anni perf of “Vampire Lesbians of Sodom,” Busch’s camp classic.
Joining Busch and Halston will be Brent Barrett, Rebecca Luker, Mario Cantone, Phyllis Newman, Bruce Vilanch and Ruth Williamson.
Busch and Halston were founding members of Theater-in-Limbo and appeared Off Broadway together in “Sodom” as well as “The Lady in Question,” “Red Scare on Sunset” and “You Should Be So Lucky.”
The first half of the benefit evening, staged by longtime Busch collaborator Carl Andress with musical direction by Jesse Vargas, will offer original sketches and musical numbers by Busch and Halston, with Barrett and Luker and a 10-member dancing chorus. Choreography is by Christopher Gattelli, with special music by Seth Rudetsky.
The evening’s second half will offer a complete member of the one-act “Sodom,” with original cast members Andy Halliday and Theresa Aceves. Williamson will play snooping gossip columnist Oatsie Carewe.
