‘Fire’ to ignite on Broadway

Fresh off a well-reviewed run in Buffalo, “Ring of Fire” will find a Broadway berth at the Barrymore in February.

Subtitled “The Johnny Cash Musical,” the $5.7 million production is co-created and directed by Richard Maltby Jr., who arguably invented the jukebox musical genre with “Ain’t Misbehavin’.” Show’s nontraditional narrative picks out themes and stories from Cash’s music, performed by an ensemble that includes Tony winner Jarrod Emick (“Damn Yankees”) and Grammy winner Lari White.

The production will give the man in black a presence both on the Great White Way and on the silver screen. In November, the Cash biopic “Walk the Line” opens in the wake of a favorable reception at the Toronto Film Festival.
