Esparza gets ‘Company’ job

Sondheim's play bows March 14 for a monthlong run

Raul Esparza will follow Broadway’s “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” by tooting his own horn for helmer John Doyle (“Sweeney Todd”), starring in the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Company.”

Actually, it’s not yet certain what instrument Esparza will play in the show — in which actors double as orchestra as they do in Doyle’s “Sweeney” on Broadway — although the thesp may not play an instrument, in keeping with his outsider character.

He appears in “Chitty” until it shutters Dec. 31. “Company” bows March 14 for a monthlong run.
