'Heaven' starts Off Broadway Oct. 28
Another jukebox musical is giving Gotham a go — this one strumming the songs of John Denver.
“Almost Heaven: Songs of John Denver” begins performances at Off Broadway’s Promenade Theater Oct. 28, with an opening set for Nov. 9.
The $1 million tuner comes off a run at the Center REPertory Company in Walnut Creek, Calif., where it closed Saturday. Show broke box office records both there and at the Denver Theater Center, where the piece originated.
Conceived by producer Harold Thau and directed by Randal Myler (“It Ain’t Nothin’ but the Blues,” “Hank Williams: Lost Highway”), the loosely structured revue presents a look at America in the late ’60s and early ’70s.
