Tony-winning thesp set to join Fiennes, McDiarmid

LONDON — From “Doubt” to “Faith”: Cherry Jones looks set to follow her Tony-winning perf in “Doubt” with a Broadway run later this season in Brian Friel’s “Faith Healer.”

Jones is expected to join the already cast Ralph Fiennes and Ian McDiarmid in Jonathan Kent’s revival of Friel’s play. Show will start rehearsals in January before opening at the Gate Theater, Dublin, and then Broadway’s Booth Theater in the spring.

Production marks a Broadway encore for Friel’s monologue-driven script about an itinerant faith healer (Fiennes), his anguished wife (Jones) and his Cockney manager (McDiarmid).

“Faith Healer” had its world preem at the Longacre in 1979 in a short-lived staging from Jose Quintero that starred Donal Donnelly, James Mason and Mason’s wife, Clarissa Kaye.
