'Chitty' to run out of steam New Years Eve

“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” goes bust Dec. 31, when the Broadway tuner plays its last at Hilton Theater.

The $15 million gadget-laden kiddie spectacle, based on Roald Dahl’s screenplay adaptation of Ian Fleming’s novel, is one very expensive flop, mostly sputtering along since it opened April 28 to mixed-to-negative reviews. A recent uptick in biz proved fleeting, so the show aims to hold on through the end of year in the hopes of benefiting from holiday B.O.
