A.C.T. draws from Public ‘Well’

Obie winner moves out West

Obie Award winner Jayne Houdyshell reprises her perf in the West Coast premiere of “Well” at American Conservatory Theater. Lisa Kron’s autobiographical exploration of perceptions of health and wellness runs Feb. 11-March 13 at the Geary Theater. Opening night is Feb. 16.

“Well” is a departure for Kron, who made a name for herself with solo shows “2.5 Minute Ride” and “101 Humiliating Stories.” “Well,” in contrast, has been described as “a solo show with other people in it.”

Kron stars in the play, directed by Leigh Silverman; Houdyshell plays her mother.

Also reprising their perfs from the Public Theater’s premiere production of “Well” are Saidah Ekullna, Joel Van Liew and Welker White; A-men Rasheed completes the ensemble.

The A.C.T. production also features work by the original team of designers: Allen Moyer (sets), Christopher Akerlind (lighting) and Miranda Hoffman (costumes). Company’s resident sound designer Garth Hemphill joins the team.
