Despite its bleak-sounding title, "Isolated" reps a delightfully laid-back laffer from young helmer David Marques ("Cualquiera") in which two buddies shoot the breeze at a hilltop villa in Ibiza, Spain. Reminiscent of Kevin Smith's debut "Clerks," pic hangs with twosome as they sink beers and discuss sex, movies, politics, whatever.

Despite its bleak-sounding title, “Isolated” reps a delightfully laid-back laffer from young helmer David Marques (“Cualquiera”) in which two buddies shoot the breeze at a hilltop villa in Ibiza, Spain. Reminiscent of Kevin Smith’s debut “Clerks”– but done on a lower budget and with even less plot — pic hangs with twosome as they sink beers and discuss sex, movies, politics, whatever. And that’s it. Picked up for niche distribution domestically, off-shore fest-friendly gabfest would need savvy marketing and good reviews to get auds in its door, but could connect with them once they’re there.

Adria (Adria Collado), a journo in his 20s, comes to visit his pro-slacker pal Kike (Eric Frances), who is house-sitting for an absent Frenchman named Pierre. Jean (Jean-Luc Ducasse, also pic’s producer), Pierre’s taciturn cousin, drifts in and out, making food, while the two friends loll around the garden, play with children’s toys, and talk constantly. Their scripted but highly naturalistic dialogue covers such varied topics as computer games, who they would fancy if they were gay, and the dullness of Iranian films. Well-timed edits and unadorned shooting style sustain deadpan comic tone throughout.
