Mann to make helming debut

The Weinstein Co. is closing a deal to preemptively acquire the comedy pic “Fan Boys,” based on a screenplay by Adam F. Goldberg and Ernest Cline.

Weinstein Co. declined comment on the move. Pic follows a group of young, hardcore “Star Wars” fans from the Midwest determined to take their dying friend to Skywalker Ranch so that he can see the seminal sci-fi pic in its perfect setting before he dies.

Kyle Mann will make his feature helming debut on the project, which is being produced by the Trigger Street label’s Kevin Spacey, Dana Brunetti, Evan Astrowsky and Matthew Perniciaro.

Dan Fogler is set to star, and the pic — which is skedded to begin lensing Feb 1 — is casting the other roles.
