Shyamalan leaves Mouse for next pic

After four movies with the Mouse House, M. Night Shyamalan has moved to Warner Bros. Pictures for his next pic, “Lady in the Water.”

Story concerns a building super who finds a sea nymph in his apartment building’s pool. Shyamalan wrote the script and will produce the film under his Blinding Edge Pictures banner with his longtime producer Sam Mercer.

Production will begin in August on location in Philadelphia, for release in July 2006.

Shyamalan’s last four pics — “The Sixth Sense,” “Unbreakable,” “Signs” and “The Village” — grossed more than $1.5 billion worldwide. “Since we met a few years ago, (Warner Bros. president) Alan Horn and (production president) Jeff Robinov have gone out of their way to offer me the best on their studio slates time after time,” Shyamalan said. “I felt their personal connection to my movies.”

Although Shyamalan has long been identified with Disney, Blinding Edge does not have a first-look deal at the studio.

“We have a terrific relationship with Night,” a Disney rep said, “and we look forward to working with him in the future.”

Repped by UTA, Shyamalan received director and original screenplay Oscar noms for “The Sixth Sense.”
