Zimbron named to lead new shingle
GUADALAJARA, Mexico — Warner Bros. Mexico has named Leonardo Zimbron to lead new shingle Warner Bros. Pictures Mexico.
Company is following the lead of Columbia TriStar and Disney (through its Latino label Miravista) in Mexico; each has set up shingles with local execs. Miravista Mexico hired former Argos Cine exec Inna Payan a week ago.
Warner shingle kicks off with $1.7 million romantic comedy “Radicales libres” (Free Radicals), the directorial debut of “Ladies’ Night” scribe Issa Lopez. It stars Kate del Castillo, Arturo Barba and Pedro Izquierdo.
Warner Bros. has produced local pics in the past under label Coyoacan Films, a joint production venture with Mexican distrib Videocine. Companies used to run a joint distribution venture too.
Coyoacan recently produced Alejandro Gamboa’s “Ultima noche,” the last part of the helmer’s romantic comedy trilogy. It’s in competition at the Guadalajara Film Festival, which ends Friday.
Coyoacan also produced kid-targeted “Serafin” and Gamboa’s “La segunda noche,” part two of the trilogy. Label has not been dissolved, but Warner Bros. plans to continue co-producing with Videocine as an independent shingle.
