Warner unwraps ‘Fred’

Mitchell gets in the holiday spirit with 'Claus'

It’s looking a lot like Christmas again for helmer Mike Mitchell, who’s been hired by Warner Bros. Pictures to direct comedy “Fred Claus.”

Jessie Nelson is producing and penned the original story about Santa Claus’ deadbeat older brother, Fred, who’s been jealous of his successful sibling for a millennium. When Fred is forced to move in with his bro at the North Pole, he screws everything up but ultimately redeems himself.

Dan Fogelson was brought in to rewrite the script.

Warner Bros. Pictures exec Courtenay Valenti will oversee the project for the studio, which is trying to beef up its comedic slate.

Mitchell, who directed last year’s “Surviving Christmas,” also helmed “Sky High” and “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo.”

Nelson wrote, directed and produced “I Am Sam” for New Line Cinema as well as “The Story of Us” for Universal.
