Universal Pictures has tapped Arturo Barquet as senior VP of production finance.
Barquet, whose immediate projects include “King Kong,” “The Producers” and “Pride and Prejudice,” will oversee films through all its phases and coordinate all financing vehicles for specified projects on U’s film slate. He also will supervise the studio’s development deals with talent and outside shingles.
In the theatrical stage arena, he will oversee and coordinate financing vehicles for all theatrical stage productions, starting with Universal’s “Wicked” and the U.K. stage adaptation of “Billy Elliot.” Barquet’s additional responsibilities include the analysis and budgeting process, finance arrangements for co-productions and sale/leaseback opportunities.
Barquet will report to chief financial officer Patti Hutton.
He was formerly CFO and senior VP of business and legal affairs at U.S. Hispanic distrib and marketing firm Arenas Entertainment.
Prior to Arenas, he was the controller and director of production finance at Vin Di Bona Prods.
