MacLachlan-penned pic bowed at Sundance

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired North American rights to Phil Morrison’s directorial debut, “Junebug,” with international rights going to Renaissance Films.

Story concerns a tightly wound North Carolina family that unravels in the face of a sophisticated visitor. Written by Angus MacLachlan, the film stars Amy Adams, Embeth Davidtz, Benjamin McKenzie and Alessandro Nivola.

Pic bowed at last month’s Sundance Film Festival in dramatic competition, with Adams winning the American Dramatic Special Prize for acting.

SPC plans an August release. Renaissance will privately screen the film at the European Film Market during the ongoing Berlin Film Festival.

Mindy Goldberg and Mike Ryan produced the film, with Mark Clein, Ethan Leder, Daniel Rappaport and Dany Wolf as exec producers.
