Kindred Media Group has pacted with Solaris Entertainment to exec produce writer-director Ed Radtke’s “Superheroes,” marking the first time Kindred has put up production money for a film.
Launched last year by Jeffrey Erb, Kindred was initially focused on distribution, with an eye to becoming involved in financing productions as well.
Kindred said it is providing completion financing for “Superheroes,” which began shooting in Gotham earlier this month. Kindred is putting up about 25% of the $1.5 million budget.
Film is about a 13-year-old who escapes the harsh streets of New York by stealing video cameras with his friends and retreating into the footage shot by tourists. Pic stars Jeremy Allen White, Peter Appel, Justin Soto, Samantha Hosie-Leung, Gil Rodgers and Ed Seamon.
Producers are Solaris’ Greg O’Connor and Josh Fagin, along with Ira Deutchman. O’Connor is producing the upcoming “Pride and Glory” for New Line.
Radtke most recently directed and wrote “The Dream Catcher.”
