Fest will fete first-time filmmakers of Asian descent
SINGAPORE – The inaugural Asian Festival of First Films (AFFF) sees 22 debut films nominated for nine awards across eight categories. Nommed movies will preem at Golden Village cineplexes in Singapore during the week-long fest (Nov. 23-Nov 30).
Billed as the first fest to celebrate first-time films from talent of Asian descent, fest received 233 submissions from Armenia, Bangladesh, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Norway, Singapore, Thailand, U.K. and the U.S.
Sanjoy Roy, festival director and managing director of Teamwork Films, said, “Not only are the number of submissions to the festival extremely encouraging, the quality of the content has surpassed our expectations,” he said.
“The AFFF comes in as a much-needed and appropriate platform for new blood to showcase their creativity and receive worldwide recognition. This outpouring of film talents will ultimately contribute to Asia’s viability as a filmmaking and producing powerhouse.”
AFFF is being held as part of the Asia Media Festival, in Singapore , Nov. 14 to Dec. 2. Other events include Asia Television Forum, Asia Film Market & Conference, the Asian Television Awards and Asia Animation.
