Paskaljevic-helmed black comedy will star Ristovski

Norwegian producer and sales agent Bjorg Veland of BVIP/Euromax will take a 50% share in Serbia director Goran Paskaljevic’s “The Optimist.”

Scheduled for a mid-July start, the film will be co-produced by Jose Maria Morales of Spain’s Wanda Vision and Filip Zepter of the Monaco-based Zepter Intl., both investors in Paskaljevic’s “A Midwinter Night’s Dream,” which won the jury prize at last year’s San Sebastian Film Festival.

The new film, a black comedy, will again star Lazar Ristovski (“Underground,” “The Powderkeg” aka “Cabaret Balkan”). He will play a hypnotist traveling to present-day Serbia who sells hope and happiness to the people.

It completes the director’s Serbian trilogy that began with “Powderkeg” and continued with “A Midwinter Night’s Dream.”
