Acad fires up 78th contest earlier than usual
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has kicked off its 78th Oscar season, mailing more than 850 application forms to scientific communities in the U.S. and abroad for its technical achievement awards.
Applications were sent early this year in order to improve the Acad’s complicated awards process.
Achievements are not limited to those invented in the past year; they must, however, show exceptional merit and evidence of having provided significant advances in film production.
Submissions will be evaluated by the Scientific and Technical Awards Committee (both main and subcommittees) before recommendations are made to the Acad’s board of governors for consideration.
