MEXICO CITY — Mexican helmer Arturo Ripstein will begin shooting “El carnaval de Sodoma” on Aug. 22.
Produced by Miguel Necoechea (“Innocent Voices”) with Spain’s Morena Films and funds from Imcine, Mexico’s government film commission, $1.3 million pic is based on the novel by Dominican writer Pedro Antonio Valdez and adapted by Ripstein’s wife, Paz Alicia Garciadiego.
Pic is an ensemble piece set entirely in a bordello, delving into the lives and frustrations of a group selecting outfits for a carnival. Pic will be released next year.
Pic will star Ripstein favorite Patricia Reyes Spindola, Alejandro Camacho and Fernando Lujan, who appeared in helmer’s “No One Writes to the Colonel.”
