Resfest honors alt music vids, short films

Chemical Brothers, Dizzee Rascal take home prizes

The Chemical Brothers’ musicvideo for “Galvanize” by Adam Smith scored the inaugural Jury Prize at Resfest on Tuesday. The alternative film fest gave special recognition to Dougal Wilson’s video for Dizzee Rascal’s “Dream” and Shakedown’s “Love Game” by Wilfrid Brimo.

Resfest honors short and feature films, musicvideos and docus from independent filmmakers. Over the years, the film fest has served as a launching point for Hollywood helmers such as Spike Jonze, Jonathan Glazer, Anton Corbijn and Michel Gondry, who preemed two new works.

Fest’s audience winner for short film was “Dimmer,” by tyro helmer Talmage Cooley. Cooley also took home the newly added Special Jury Award. The Jury Prize went to “Raftman’s Razor” by Keith Bearden.

“With the addition of our Jury Awards, even more of the innovative filmmakers at RESFEST will be recognized for their outstanding art,” said fest director Jonathan Wells. “Significantly, our awards recognize not only short filmmaking, but the emerging field of design films and the artistry of musicvideo, whereas most musicvideo awards tend to celebrate the musician.”

More than 200 films entered this year’s traveling fest, which has been growing continuously since 1999. Prizes were awarded Dec. 13 at the Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles.
