Producer ‘Dead’ to rights

Gilbert flies with 'Angels'

Producer Bruce Gilbert has optioned film rights to James A. Mangum’s first novel, “Dead and Dying Angels.”

“Angels,” set to be published next week by John M. Hardy Publishing, centers on a former customs agent who has lost his wife and two daughters and is living in a tiny Texas village. When he and a friend are implicated in a brutal rape and murder, he turns all his attention to clearing their names and tracking down the real murderers.

Mangum has worked for the federal government as a sky marshal and a special agent with the U.S. Treasury Dept., as a city manager of three cities in Texas, a federal game warden and civil rights manager. He also co-owned an oil and gas business.

Gilbert said he discovered “Dead and Dying Angels” a few weeks ago when a writer friend lent him a reviewer’s copy of the book.

Gilbert was an exec producer on “Coming Home” and producer of “On Golden Pond.”
