Paramount has joined Hollywood’s charge to establish movie production operations in China and appointed Dede Nickerson as its rep in the Middle Kingdom.
Nickerson’s deal is a first-look producing and consulting arrangement similar to the one she held with Miramax. She reports to Par senior VP of production Marc Evans and is expected to work closely with studio prexy Gail Berman.
Nickerson also will service local production of Par’s future pictures in China. Studio shot parts of “Mission: Impossible 3” in downtown Shanghai as an assisted co-production.
Nickerson is opening offices for Par in Beijing and has assembled a team including Tian Lan, former China Film Co-production Corp. exec Lieo Jun and another Miramax alumnus, Clark Randt.
Miramax’s Beijing consultant between February 2001 and September of this year, Nickerson brought “Hero” and “Infernal Affairs” to the company and took producer credits on both “Kill Bill” films.
