Paramount is beefing up an already ambitious summer release schedule, slotting “Bad News Bears” on June 10 and “The Honeymooners” on July 15.
The two comedies augment an already significant summer presence for Paramount releases — “The Longest Yard,” with Adam Sandler, on May 27; “The War of the Worlds,” with Tom Cruise, on June 29; and “Elizabethtown,” with Orlando Bloom, on July 29. Sony will handle international distribution on “The Longest Yard”; DreamWorks is the international partner on “War of the Worlds.”
Paramount distrib chief Wayne Lewellen said “Bears,” starring Billy Bob Thornton, and “The Honeymooners,” starring Cedric the Entertainer and Mike Epps, would be marketed as pics for a broad family audience.
Par’s additions crowd a summer calendar that’s already cheek-by-jowl. “Bears” is now set to take on Fox’s Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie pic “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” and Dimension’s Richard Rodriguez kidpic “The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl in 3-D.”
Meanwhile, “Honeymooners” is now set to face off against Warners’ Johnny Depp tentpole “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and MGM’s drug-heist pic “Into the Blue,” starring Paul Walker and Jessica Alba.
