Over 100 nominees to show for the annual event

More than 100 nominees from 24 Oscar categories will convene at the Beverly Hilton at noon today for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ annual nominees’ luncheon.

Seventeen of the 19 acting nominees are expected to attend, with “Closer” supporting duo Natalie Portman and Clive Owen absent. Of the five directing nominees, all but “Vera Drake’s” Mike Leigh will be in attendance.

On Friday the Oscars take flight — literally — as 50 of the 8½-pound, gold-plated statuettes will be shipped from Chicago to Los Angeles.

Also, Ziyi Zhang and Oscar winner Robin Williams have been announced as presenters at the kudofest, which will be held Feb. 27 at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood and broadcast live on ABC.
