‘Omen’ possesses pair

Schreiber, Stiles in negotiations to join cast

Liev Schreiber and Julia Stiles are in negotiations to reprise the roles played by Gregory Peck and Lee Remick in Fox’s remake of 1976 horror classic “The Omen.”

Both thesps have been making headlines of late, thanks to playwright David Mamet. Schreiber recently won a Tony for his perf in Mamet’s “Glengarry Glen Ross,” which runs through Aug. 28. Stiles has the Mamet-scripted “Edmond,” opposite William H. Macy, in the can at First Independent Pictures.

Deals for the duo clear the way for an October start to lensing on the thriller.

Original pic was helmed by Richard Donner; remake has Fox-based director John Moore (“Flight of the Phoenix”) directing from a script by Dan McDermott, the scribe of “Selling Time,” a thriller set up at Fox-based Davis Entertainment.

Meanwhile, Schreiber makes his helming debut this year with his screen adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel “Everything Is Illuminated” at Warner Independent Pictures.

In an amusing marketing twist that’s likely to snare a few headlines, Fox has already skedded the pic’s opening for Tuesday, June 6, 2006, or 6/6/06.
