Company to contribute 10%-15% of budgets

AMSTERDAM — Nordisk Film has signed on for a pack of English-language pics set in Europe to be co-produced with Mark Hammond’s Affinity Films and Massimo Cristaldi of Rome-based Cristaldi Pictures.

Nordisk will contribute 10%-15% of the budgets in the three-year deal.

First pic will be the $4.5 million Hammond-helmed Irish thriller “Johnny Was,” written by Brendan Foley and starring Vinnie Jones, Gerard McSorley, Roger Daltrey and Samantha Mumba.

Production slate will include “Dancing on the Moon,” a $7.7 million Nicholas Kendall romantic comedy set in Italy, and “Out of the Shadows,” a biopic about Fanny Mendelssohn, sister of German composer Felix Mendelssohn. Latter will be helmed by Ilaria Borelli.

Nordisk will take Nordic distrib rights on all pics. Nordisk Film Sales will rep “Johnny Was,” with sales for the rest of the lineup to be determined pic by pic.

Other films in development include “Han, the Forger,” about famous Dutch painting and forgery genius Han van Meegeren, and “Under the Wire,” a biopic about American Royal Canadian Air Force pilot William Ash, who excelled in escaping from POW camps during WWII.

In April Nordisk signed a first-look deal with L.A.-based Fluid Films that includes an equity position guaranteeing 10% of the budget of films selected.
