Tubby tabby returns to theaters
Fox has signed director Tim Hill to helm its sequel to family comedy “Garfield: The Movie.”Hill’s directing credits include kidpics “Max Keeble’s Big Move” and “Muppets in Space.” Hill was a writer on Nick Films’ “SpongeBob SquarePants Movie”; he and Tim Rubiner sold “Game Over,” an animated comedy pitch, to Warner Bros. Hill also amassed numerous writing, directing and producing credits for Nickelodeon on such shows as “One Hundred Deeds of Eddie McDowd” and “Action League Now.” At Comedy Central, Hill was the writer-director of half-hour comedy “Exit 57.” Fox received a solid performance last summer from “Garfield,” based on the long-running comic strip and produced by Davis Entertainment, with $75 million domestically and $114 million in foreign markets. John Davis produced the live-action/CGI pic with Pete Hewitt directing, Breckin Meyer and Jennifer Love Hewitt toplining and Bill Murray voicing Garfield.
