Disney animation has optioned bestselling children’s book “Peter and the Starcatchers,” by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. Story will be developed as a 3-D CGI feature.

In the loose prequel to “Peter Pan,” modern 8-year-old Peter leads a group of orphaned boys on the ship Never Land. Peter and shipmate Molly lead an effort to recover a trunk of magical starstuff, before it can fall into the hands of the pirate Black Stache.

Book was published by Disney Editions in August.

Barry is a Pulitzer Prize-winning syndicated columnist and the writer of humor books including “Big Trouble.” Pearson (“The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer”) writes suspense novels.

Disney’s Touchstone label made Barry’s “Big Trouble” as a live-action film helmed by Barry Sonnenfeld and starring Tim Allen.
