Sharif, Brandauer lead 'Kronprinz' cast
BERLIN — Jan Mojto’s EOS Entertainment and Vienna-based MR Film are teaming on the E11 million ($13 million) historical drama “Kronprinz Rudolf” for German pubcaster ARD, Austria’s ORF and Italy’s RAI.
Robert Dornhelm (“Spartacus”) is directing the latest retelling of the tragic love affair between the Austrian Archduke Rudolf and Baroness Mary Vetsera, which ended with their double suicide in 1889.
Omar Sharif and Klaus Maria Brandauer lead the cast that includes German thesp Max von Thun and Italian star Vittoria Puccini as Rudolf and Mary, respectively.
Based on a screenplay by Klaus Lintschinger and Didier Decoin (“Napoleon”), the English-language pic is shooting in Vienna and Lower Austria and will be produced in one- and two-part versions.
