Fox Searchlight has acquired rights to distribute the BBC Films pic “Imagine Me & You” in territories including North America, Latin America, France, Italy and Japan.

Acquired after its market premiere at Cannes this year, pic marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Ol Parker (“It Was an Accident”), who also wrote the screenplay.

Pic will get its world premiere in the Special Presentations section of the Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 9 and will open theatrically in the U.S. on Feb. 10. It stars Piper Perabo, Lena Headey, Matthew Goode, Celia Imrie, Anthony Head and Eva Birthistle.

Produced by Sophie Balhetchet, Barnaby Thompson and Andro Steinborn, pic is an Ealing Studios and BBC Films presentation in association with Focus Features, Minotaur Film Partnership No. 3, RTL and Filmstiftung NTW.

Deal was brokered by Fox Searchlight executive VP Joseph De Marco, senior VP of acquisitions Tony Safford with Andrew Herwitz, prexy of the Film Sales Co., and Barnaby Thompson of distrib Fragile Film.

Story of “Me & You” follows what happens when a woman catches sight of an unexpected guest at her wedding and bails out moments before she’s supposed to utter “I do.”

Perabo next stars opposite Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey in “Edison” and will also topline Fox’s sequel to “Cheaper by the Dozen.”

Goode will next be seen in Woody Allen’s “Match Point” and opposite Ed Harris in “Copying Beethoven.”

Pic was shot in London by “Layer Cake” cinematographer Ben Davis.
