Balaguero-helmed pic will be released in U.S. in 2006

MADRID — New U.S. distrib Bauer Martinez Distribution has picked up Filmax Intl.’s “Fragile,” starring Calista Flockhart, for U.S. distribution.

The English-language chiller, helmed by Jaume Balaguero, will be released in the U.S. in 2006 on more than 1,000 screens, according to Filmax.

“Fragile” premiered at the Venice Film Festival in an out-of-competition slot.

Balaguero’s prior pic was another Filmax production, “Darkness,” a femme teen screamfest that Miramax opened to $22.2 million Stateside this year.

Bauer Martinez Distribution, the new theatrical distrib arm of Bauer Martinez Studios, recently picked up North American rights to Michael Traeger’s “The Moguls,” starring Jeff Bridges, and David Ayer’s action drama “Harsh Times,” toplining Christian Bale.
