COLOGNE — The Intl. Film Festival Mannheim-Heidelberg this year is establishing a spinoff fest including an award honoring artistic achievement in Teutonic film.
In addition to the traditional Mannheim-Heidelberg event in November, the offshoot, Festival of German Films, will take place June 30-July 10 on a Rhine river isle in nearby Ludwigshafen.
In contrast to Mannheim-Heidelberg, a platform for international newcomers, the Ludwigshafen fest will showcase domestic artpics.”German film must be artistically significant in order to be commercially successful in the long run,” said fest’s director, Michael Koetz.
The kudos, financed by a regional initiative of the industrial city conglomerate called Rhine-Neckar-Triangle, will be endowed with S50,000 ($66,000).
