Madrid’s Vertigo buys ‘Bull’ rights

SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain — Madrid-based distrib Vertigo Films has acquired all Spanish rights to Michael Winterbottom’s Toronto and San Sebastian player “A Cock & Bull Story.”

Based around, rather than on, Laurence Sterne’s novel “The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman,” pic portrays a filmmaker’s flailing attempts to adapt “Tristram Shandy.” Steve Coogan, Rob Brydon and Gillian Anderson star.

Pic’s world sales are handled by London-based the Works Intl. It is a BBC Films presentation in association with EM Media & Revolution Films and Baby Cow Prods. Scion Films produced.

“Cock & Bull” will be a Picturehouse release in the U.S.
