Isaac-helmed pic pits Werewolves against eachother

CANNES — Lions Gate Films has acquired werewolf tale “Skinwalkers” for the world outside Germany.

Lions Gate will release the pic wide in North America next year and handle international sales. Production is slated to begin this fall.

“Skinwalkers” is Lions Gate’s first collaboration with Constantin Film, which produced the “Resident Evil” franchise. It’s the tale of a 12-year-old boy at the center of a battle between two warring groups of werewolves — one sworn to protect him, the other trying to kill him.

Director is Jim Isaac (“Jason X”), an f/x supervisor on David Cronenberg’s “eXistenZ” who also worked on Cronenberg’s “Naked Lunch” and “The Fly.” James DeMonaco, Todd Harthan and James Roday wrote the script.

Producers are Red Moon Films’ Don Carmody and Dennis Berardi, Robert Kulzer, Stan Winston and Brian Gilbert. Lions Gate president of acquisitions and co-productions Peter Block and senior VP of acquisitions Jason Constantine oversee production.
