Principal photography skedded for November
Spike Lee and Paolo Sadri of new Miami-based shingle TMG Films will exec produce “The Goal,” a Brazilian soccer pic starring Mario Lopez.Principal photography is skedded for November in Rio de Janeiro and Miami. Pic’s scribe Art Sims will make “The Goal” his directorial debut. Budgeted at $16 million, the film will also star Brazil’s world-class soccer team. “We are also considering Enrique Iglesias for a role,” Sadri told Daily Variety. Other thesps under consideration include Ricky Martin, Sting, Sonia Braga and Javier Bardem. “The Goal” tracks the life of a young man who rises from the bowels of Rio’s infamous hillside slums (favelas) to become the No. 1 soccer player in the world. He is traded to the U.S. when tragedy strikes while playing during the Brazilian championship. Soccer-themed project is one of many under way, led most notably by $100 million soccer trilogy “Goal,” starring Diego Luna and David Beckham.
